Personal grooming is often a private affair. But I’m going to share some secrets. My heritage is Italian. That means I’ve inherited the very best traits of my forebears – although sometimes a little too hairy. Genetics did its job well and soon I started to have unwanted hair growing on my chest, back and neck.
Some guys look great with beards and natural hair. For others, it just doesn’t work. In today’s modern age, it’s all about personal choice, confidence and convenience. For me, ingrown hair after shaving became a nightmare. Plus I wanted to shed a little of that great Italian heritage. That’s when I started my hair removal journey with laser treatment.
I went for treatments every 6 weeks to remove unwanted hair on my chest, back and neck. In total, I had 8 sessions of hair removal by laser. By the end of the course, it completely changed my life and appearance. Now I feel more confident. I don’t have ingrown hair and don’t need to shave almost every other day.
It’s been almost 6 years since I had my last treatment. Like most things in life, maintenance is important. Specialists recommend annual follow up sessions to make sure the hair is not growing back.
I’ve been tardy on the follow up and haven’t been back for a treatment since 2010. Ahead of my summer holidays to Spain, I decided to put matters right and visited Pulse Light Clinic in London. They offered an amazing professional service. In the end, what a great holiday – silky smooth in the shimmering sunshine and scorching sand of Ibiza’s iconic beaches.
Pulse Light Clinic is open Monday – Friday from 10am – 8pm and weekends 10am – 5pm. This makes it extremely convenient to book an appointment after work. And they’re centrally located, with two clinics in Frenchurch Street and Tottenham Court Road. So there’s no excuses.
I was once a novice to hair removal and didn’t know much. So I thought I’d share some tips for those keen but inexperienced with this treatment.
Make sure your skin is clean and free of make-up, perfume/deodorant and hair. Yes – you read correctly: hair! You must shave beforehand (everywhere you want to target!). This ensures the laser targets the follicle without any hair strands getting in the way.
During laser treatment
During the laser session, the part/s of your body are sectioned off. The laser delivers an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the hair follicle while the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. This process is called selective photothermolysis (photo means light and thermolysis means to destroy with heat). It is selective as it targets hair and not skin.
After the treatment, take a break. Make sure you don’t go to the gym, stay away from hot showers or baths and don’t put anything on the skin, since it is very sensitive. After 24 hours, you’re good to get back to normal. It’s best to use SPF because you don’t want to get pigmentation in your skin.
There are obvious benefits for guys who choose hair removal with laser. You don’t have to wake up and shave each morning. You don’t have to deal with skin irritation and cuts. Gone is unsightly hair where you don’t want it. And you can treat your entire body. Plus its affordable – hair removal with laser is almost the same price as waxing, when you buy a treatment package.
I’m very excited continue my treatment at Pulse Light Clinic using the latest advancement in laser hair removal technology. They’re professional, friendly and meticulous in their treatments. They offer amazing prices and you can even pay monthly over 12 months, which makes it affordable for everyone.
With autumn here and winter coming, this is the perfect time to start your laser hair removal journey. I’ll definitely be visiting Pulse Light Clinic ahead of #summer2017.
