First Impressions
From the moment I arrived, Ayana Komodo felt like a place to exhale. The resort looks straight out over the bay, and the islands of Komodo National Park scattered across the horizon make every view feel like a postcard.
After a long travel day, checking in here felt like the trip had truly begun. I knew within the first hour that five nights was going to fly by.
My Room
Every room at Ayana Komodo faces the water, and waking up to that view every morning never got old. My room had a private balcony, a king size bed and a large bathroom with a bathtub and rain shower.
The balcony became my favourite spot for morning coffee and for watching the light change over the bay at the end of each day.

The Beach and Jetty
Waecicu Beach is one of the biggest reasons to stay here. The water is so clear you can see straight to the bottom, and the sea is calm enough for an easy swim any time of day.
The long wooden jetty stretches out over the water and is one of the most photogenic spots in the resort, especially at sunset.
Don’t miss: The water activities at the private beach. Kayaking and paddleboarding on that clear water were some of my favourite resort moments.
The Pools
The infinity pool looks out over the bay and the islands, and it’s the perfect place to spend a slow afternoon between adventures. There’s also a dedicated children’s pool, so families have their own space.

Dining at Ayana Komodo
For a resort, the food scene here is impressive. You could easily stay five nights without eating at the same place twice.
HonZEN
HonZEN is the resort’s Japanese restaurant, known for sushi and refined Japanese dishes in a calm, zen inspired setting.
Kisik Seafood and Grill
Kisik is all about fresh seafood and grilled dishes, including lobster, served close to the sea.
Rinca
Rinca is the all day restaurant, where breakfast sets you up perfectly before a day of exploring.
UNIQUE Rooftop Bar
If you only do one thing at sunset, make it a cocktail at the UNIQUE Rooftop Bar. The views across the bay are incredible.
The Kitchen Garden
One of my favourite discoveries was the resort’s kitchen garden. Visiting it was a lovely way to connect with the food on my plate and with the farm to table spirit that runs through Flores cuisine.
Spa and Wellness
The spa offers traditional Indonesian treatments and massages, which are exactly what you need after hiking Padar at sunrise. There’s also an ocean view gym and yoga sessions on the beach.
Activities at Ayana Komodo
There’s plenty to do without leaving the resort, from kayaking and paddleboarding to snorkelling and diving. The resort can also help arrange boat trips into Komodo National Park.
For something truly special, Ayana also has its own phinisi ship, the Lako di’a, for sailing through the islands in style.
The Service
The team made the whole stay feel effortless. Every request was handled with warmth, and their help with tours and transfers made exploring Labuan Bajo so easy.
What I Loved Most About Ayana Komodo
- The views: water views from every room and sunsets every night
- The beach: clear, calm sea and that long wooden jetty
- The dining: so much variety without leaving the resort
- The location: the perfect base for Komodo National Park
- The service: warm, thoughtful and always helpful
What Could Be Better?
Honestly, very little. It’s a large resort, so it feels less intimate than a small boutique hotel, and you’ll need a transfer to reach restaurants in town. Neither took anything away from my stay.
Who Is Ayana Komodo Best For?
- Couples looking for a romantic beach escape
- Families, thanks to the kids club and children’s pool
- Travellers who want a luxury base for Komodo National Park
- Anyone who loves sunsets, clear water and great food
