Embrace the Age: The 4 Keys to Great “Dad Style”

August 9, 2022

Whether you are venturing on a family holiday and have been exercising like mad to get your body beach ready, or you are entering into another decade where you feel like you want to reevaluate your looks, the key to dad style is about focusing on some of the following things.

Know Your Ideal Accessories

Accessories are vital for making you feel better about yourself. Accessories in a physical sense act as statement pieces, but they can also work in other ways as well. For example, an aftershave like Bleu de Chanel can easily make you feel fresher in yourself.

Stop With All the Brands!

There comes a time in your life when you’ve got to stop wearing branded stuff. We all love the idea of wearing logos, but there is a point towards your late twenties when you’ve got to start acting your age. If you are covered head to toe in brands, this is screaming out that you are insecure and you are trying too hard. You can have the tiny logo on the pocket of your shirt, which adds a little decorative touch, but the brand should signify high-quality materials, rather than buying something incredibly expensive just for the sake of it.

Know Your Sizes

If you are on a health kick, and you’re trying to lose weight, you need to know your sizes. As you get older, it might be the perfect reason to put on a few pounds, but if you’re trying to fit into those clothes that are on the slimmer side, it’s not going to be flattering in the slightest. You may be comfortable in yourself, you can have that belly, but you need to get the size of your clothes perfect so you can disguise it where possible. This is why a tailored fit can do a lot for us as we get older. They cost a little bit more, but if you’re trying to unveil some form of dad style, it keeps everything in proportion.

Find the Style Icons the Same Age As You

There were people you admired when you were in your teens who were the same age as you and as you’ve grown up with them, they’ve evolved. The fact is that these days there are plenty of stylish dads out there and older icons. You can look at the people that speak to you, not necessarily those that are your age, but those that fit your body type. People in their 40s have a variety of style icons to choose from; from the two Ryans: Gosling and Reynolds, and even those that are in their 50s have got people like Paul Rudd. Finding style icons the same age as you can give you that inspiration to start, but if you find someone that’s stylish in their 70s, like Bill Nighy, don’t be afraid to emulate, just as long as it suits you.

You might feel that you are too old to be stylish, but the fact is that there are plenty of ways for you to give yourself a dad makeover, all with some style. Embrace the age!
