How Your Car Can be Better in Winter

November 14, 2023

Cold and icy weather can be dangerous for driving. But believe it or not, your car can be better in winter for some very specific things, despite the obvious disadvantages. From getting some more power from the car to providing cardio, here are some distinct winter advantages.

A Better Deal on a New Vehicle

A new car is an expensive thing, and many sellers will take advantage of the Christmas rush. But a car is a product like anything else, and there are certain times when you can get a better deal. Around January, the local Ford, Jaguar or Peugeot dealer in your area will probably cut the price of their cars to promote sales. This could be the motivation you need to get a brand-new car. Or even a new car that’s a lot safer for winter driving anyway or has space for more kids.

Helping You Stay Safer

Winter driving does come with many hazards. Low light, whiteouts and dreaded black ice are just a few. So, how can winter be safer for driving? Simply put, we pay more attention and drive more carefully when conditions are treacherous. Also, summer is busier than winter, and by rationale, the roads are more dangerous when we venture out during favourable weather. With around 25% fewer vehicles on the road during winter, it is likely to be a lot safer to drive.

Your Car Can be Better in Winter Off-Roading

Off-roading isn’t something most people advocate, but it is a sport and hobby enjoyed by millions of people all over the world. It needs to be said that it should be kept to designated tracks and areas for off-roading safety. And safety is a concern in winter because of ice and snow. Yet winter can help your engine when off-roading or driving in general. Denser air is distributed more evenly and can provide a power boost thanks to the increased oxygen burned as fuel.

Getting Some Cardio Work

It’s easy to think that a car does all the work when you are driving and that driving makes you gain weight. There is no evidence that driving increases weight gain unless that is all you do, such as driving a bus. And driving is actually a lot more physical than people think. The excitement of driving increases your heart rate, especially when driving fast. Additionally, studies have found that you can burn up to 250 calories per hour when you drive because of movement.

Reducing Fluid Leakages

Fluids leaking from your car are annoying and dangerous. Toxic antifreeze, for example, is licked by cats and can kill them. Winter is said to be bad for vehicle fluids, but it isn’t 100% accurate. You see, fluids do indeed thicken when it’s cold. And this can be bad for your car. But all you need to do is warm up the engine, and you’re golden. The advantage of this is that thickened fluids are far less likely to leak from your car overnight, meaning fewer chances of an incident.

Summary

Getting a better deal is an example of how your car can be better in winter for you personally. But winter also encourages safer driving. The cold thickens fluids and prevents leakages.
